A visit from Bryn Fussell

A famous or possibly  infamous visitor came to see us on the 10th August 2017…

The Museum was delighted to welcome Bryn Fussell to Sywell today….his first visit to the airfield in many years! In 1950, then aged 19, Bryn broke out of Borstal, made his way to Sywell, pushed Auster G-AHHP out of a hangar, fuelled it, started it up and stole it, flying it to France – despite never having piloted an aeroplane before! He subsequently became something of a celebrity and has had quite a life since! He overcame an awful childhood to live a lifetime of adventures. Now 86, he returned to Sywell to have a flight with the nephews of the original owner of the Auster in an R44 helicopter. Please DO take the time to read his amazing story here – it is quite incredible!
